Do not confuse connectivity with coverage
The NCA’s quarterly bulletin tracks communications subscriptions and usage. Subscription counts are not counts of unique people. They cannot, on their own, establish who a digital survey reaches or whether respondents represent your target population.
Reduce participation friction
Our design recommendation is simple: keep questionnaires short, use readable text, minimise downloads and test forms on lower-cost phones. Where appropriate, offer a callback or an assisted interview instead of insisting on a long web form.
Plan for people a link will miss
Define your sampling frame and recruitment channels. Consider whether language, device access, disability or connectivity excludes relevant groups. Combine methods where justified and record the limitations of convenience recruitment.
Keep payments and research separate
The Bank of Ghana’s payment-systems strategy provides context for digital finance research. If a study includes participant reimbursement, specify the process and protect payment details. Never ask participants to share mobile-money PINs or one-time passwords.
